Ryan's Story

Update of 5-12-2004:

Hi everyone.

Update time.

Ryan completed his 5th round of chemo last week. He did okay with it. A little sick but not too bad.

We have a date for Ryan admission to the transplant unit for his first stem cell transplant. It's May 24th.

This coming week we'll be at Children's and/or the Jimmy Fund Clinic every day for pre-transplant testing.

They'll repeat the 2 bone scans and MRI they did right before his surgery plus another bone marrow biopsy, pulmonary function test, kidney function test, dental check, eye check, EKG and cardiac echo.

Plus we will meet with the transplant team to go over the whole procedure and get a tour of the transplant unit.

Once admitted, we'll be in for 3-4 weeks. First they give him about a week of high dose chemo to wipe out his bone marrow. After that (I'm not sure if it's right away or if they wait a bit) they'll give him the stem cells. Then home for about 2 weeks, then back for the second transplant for another 3-4 weeks.

The general plan right now is for me to stay with him during the week and Paul will stay on the weekends.

That's about it for now.

As always, thank-you for all your prayers for Ryan.

Love,

Norma
